Explains details of what comes with a Hive with Used Equipment purchase, optional marking of the queen in your Hive, pick up dates and care of your hive.
Texas Bee Supply
Description: This 9 or 10 frame hive includes a 2019 laying Italian/Carniolan queen, with 3-4 frames covered in brood and 8 to 10 frames covered in bees, all of which have already had their Spring mite treatment.
Woodenware: The used woodenware will be painted in various colors and includes a used box, used migratory cover, and new bottom board along with 8 or 10 frames of bees. Please note: The majority of the frames should be wooden with plastic foundation, but this will not be true of every single frame. Some frames may be all plastic or have wire with beeswax foundation. As this is the brood box and extracting honey from this box will not be occurring, any of these types of frames should be fine.
Marking the Queen: We will mark the queen if you add the marking cost to this order. At the bottom of this page click the icon that says Add a Mark to Your Queen in Nuc or Hive" to your shopping cart.
Delivery Day Choices: As each delivery days and times fill up, it will be removed from the list of options. If you wish to inspect your hive, please arrive at the beginning of your chosen time. Please be prepared to wait to inspect or pick up your hive as this occurs frequently.
Dates: We anticipate these hives to be ready April through June but if we have an unusually cold, wet or hot winter and early spring, the timing could change. If we discover that we cannot accommodate your chosen pick up day, we will contact you as soon as possible and let you know of other options.
Email Address: Please include a valid email address as we must send you pick up instructions the week you come get your bees. You will receive a receipt in your inbox once you order your bees, so please watch for it. If you do not receive a receipt, we did not receive your order.
Shipping: We do not ship or deliver these hives. All orders for hives must be picked-up at Texas Bee Supply.
Care of the Hive: Once you take your bees home, please be prepared to feed them constantly for a minimum of two weeks. They will need this syrup to eat while they are locating nectar in their new location. Once you have a feeder in place, please allow the bees to rest for a few days before examining the hive. They have had a traumatic move and they need some adjustment time before you open up the top and go through the frames. The queen may stop laying for a while as she adjusts to the new location so don’t panic if you think she isn’t laying immediately. Give her a week or so and then recheck the hive for eggs.
